MOULTRIE -- The Colquitt County High tennis teams completed a busy first week of the season by sweeping Lee County on Thursday in Leesburg.

Both teams are now 3-0, with two of their victories, including Thursday's, coming over Region 1-AAAAA opponents.

Colquitt's girls swept the Lady Trojans 5-0.

Lindsey Jacobs won her second straight at No. 1 singles, defeating Lauren Payne 6-1, 6-2.

"Lindsey played a very good match," coach Grant Hammack said. "She hit some really nice shots."

At No. 2, freshman Abbigail McCrary remains unbeaten after her 6-0, 6-1 victory over Elizabeth West.

Amber Eunice won what Hammack called "a nail-biter," defeating Whitney Varner 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1.

At No. 1 doubles, Gracie Qurnell and Elizabeth Singley defeated Haley Griner and Jennifer Reed 7-5, 6-0.

And at No. 2 doubles, Anna Jordan and Landi Clark had little trouble with Lindsay Butt and Caroline Brown, winning 6-0, 6-1.

In an extra match, Anne Yearta and Monique Murphy won in doubles 8-0.

Colquitt's boys won 4-1, losing only at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 1 singles, Nathaniel Hiers won his third straight match of the season, defeating Klint Ware 6-0, 6-2.

Brian Michie also remains unbeaten after his 6-1, 6-0 win over Michael Brooks at No. 2 singles.

"He was impressive," Hammack said of Michie.

Freshman Tyler Tucker also remains unbeaten, but needed three sets to knock off Zach Ramsey, 6-1, 5-7, 7-5.

"And he was down 5-2 in the third set," Hammack said. "He got some valuable experience playing under pressure. And he won."

Taylor Dekalb and Clayton Brooks remain unbeaten at No. 1 doubles, beating Davis Thurman and Daniel Smith, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 2 doubles, the team of Bradley Michie and Brent Allen suffered their first loss, falling to Zach McCalvin and Andrew Spurlin, 3-6, 4-6.

In an extra match, the doubles team of Sam Baker and Kyle Taylor won 8-3.

Colquitt's tennis teams will be home for all three of its matches next week.

On Monday, they play host to Thomas County Central. On Tuesday, Bainbridge will visit. And on Thursday, Colquitt will face a pair of key Region 1-AAAAA matches against Tift County.
