Tanner Wilson and Cory Newsome combined to allow just one unearned run over seven innings as the Colquitt County eighth-grade baseball team defeated Berrien Middle School 9-1 on Wednesday at Packer Park.

The victory raises the eighth-grade Packers record to 7-2.

Wilson was making his first appearance of the season on the mound and did not give up hit over the first three innings while striking oiut six.

Newsome pitched the final four innings and gave up the one unearned run. He also fanned six.

Tucker Hathcock led the eighth-graders at the plate with two hits, including a solo home run.

Caleb Ashley also had two hits.

Raines Plant had a double and Wilson. Newsome, Ethan Phillips, Dylan Dalton, Carson Asbell and Tucker Buckner each had base hits.

The eighth-graders will travel to Tift County to play at 4 p.m. Friday.

They will be back at Packer Park next week to play Valdosta on Monday and Lowndes on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Colquitt County seventh-grade team defeated Hahira 11-8 at Packer Park..

Now 4-1, the seventh-grade Packers will play host to Valdosta Middle School next Wednesday and Pine Grove next Thursday at Packer Park.
